The Munich Massacre happened in 1972, during the Summer Olympics in Munich.
The attack was staged by the Arabic terrorist group, Black September, and they were behind the kidnapping and killing of several members of the Israeli Olympic team.
In all, 11 Israeli athletes and coaches lost their lives, along with 1 West German police officer.
During the gunfight, 5 of the 8 members of the Black September was also killed.
